2006 LOM/MS Gala ![]() Loewen, Ondaatje, McCutcheon played host to Bay Street’s biggest bash on October 19th, 2006 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. The 13th annual LOM Gala and Auction to benefit Multiple Sclerosis was a tremendous success, raising more than $320,000 towards a cure for this debilitating disease. The party kicked off swinging with the sultry sound of the Anita Rossi Band, as guests of this spectacular charitable event enjoyed a sumptuous meal prepared by Executive Chef, Lynn Crawford. “Bay Street-opoly” was the theme with an oversized board game and giant dice set up in the Regency ballroom. Some 400 guests decked out in tuxedos and gowns played to win with their exotic cars racing around the board. Hailed as “Bay Street’s Party of the Year”, this annual event continues to commemorate the life and times of Bruce Grinton, an LOM trader whose battle with MS ended too shortly some 7 years ago. Today, thanks to the generous support of corporations and small businesses alike, the cause lives on through product donation and prizes for our silent and live auctions. Some of the big-ticket auction items were: a 12-bottle case of Château d’Armailhac 1990, a Harry Rosen designer ready-to-wear suit by Canali, Hermès men’s and ladies’ watches and a gourmet BBQ party for 50. One could “Take-a-Chance” for $25, $50, $100 or $150 to win prizes worth up to $500. These included gift certificates to fabulous restaurants, dazzling jewelry, relaxing spa days and much, much more. Guest speakers for the evening included: Dr. Paul O'Connor (Director of the MS Clinic and Chief of the Division of Neurology at St. Michael's Hospital), and Dr. Brenda Banwell (Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto). Mr. Duncan McLean of Waddington's Auctioneers/ Appraisers was the Auctioneer for the lightning quick bidding round. As always, this gala would not be possible without the generous support of:

Despite all the excitement, the highlight of the evening was when the corporate community came together to meet the challenge made by Garrett Herman, LOM’s Chairman & CEO, who pledged to donate $5,000 and invited others to do the same as they came on stage. Not only was there a line-up for the microphone, six other firms raised the ante and pledged an additional $5,000 for the cause. Companies and individuals who contributed to the challenge were:
